America's Bird or America's Pest?

In Homer Alaska, out on "the spit," there were a bunch of eagles. On the bottom of this picture there is a young eagle (without a full white head, or black feathers yet) who is feeding on the carcass of a halibut left behind by a fisherman. All of a sudden a larger more mature eagle came swooping in to try to take the carcass away from the younger eagle. He was unsuccessful, but it was an interesting sight to see nonetheless.

Brrrrrrrrr!

Holgate Glacier. This was truly an AWESOME sight! While on a Kenai Fjord's tour, one of the many amazing sights we saw, was this glacier. This picture was taken without zoom at just about a half mile away. I was actually lucky enough to caputure a large chunk of the glacier fall into the unsuspecting Pacific Ocean on video camera. While on the cruise I also learned from that guide that the word glacier means "always moving." The closer we got to this glacier the louder the creeking and cracking got, it sounded like the ice on a frozen Minnesota lake but only on a much larger scale.

Musk Ox

We visited a Musk Ox farm near Palmer AK while on vacation. This is a picture of two young male Musk Ox who were pushing and shoving each other. I was interested in getting a picture of them at play, but when I took a closer look I found that the picture turned out to have a beautiful landscape in the background.

as pure as it gets

The Kenai River is a beautiful river with an aqua blue color to it because of how clear the water is. The river is this color for most of the year, except for when the red salmon make their run to the spawning grounds. When this happens the water turns blood red because of all the salmon. We were there a little to early to see the red color of the river, but this beautiful blue color was good enough.

Everest?

On my recent trip to Alaska I climbed a relatively small mountain (875ft) called "The Butte" the view from on top was beautiful. It took Kathy and I about an hour to get all the way up. While on top we were able to get some relly cool views of Pioneer Peak and the Sleeping Lady Mountain.
